Replica Panthère 41mm: short answer

Cartier does not list a 41mm Panthère de Cartier. Published size tables for the relaunched line cover small, medium, and large cases, from 22mm to about 36mm. I could not verify a 41mm case in Cartier's own product data. A seller who advertises "41mm" is measuring something else: the case across the crown guards, the widest point of the bezel, or a case from a different watch. Ask for caliper photos with the crown excluded from the measurement.

What a 41mm label can mean

  • Case measured across the crown, not the dial side.
  • Lug-to-lug length reported as diameter.
  • A fantasy build. The factory put a Panthère style dial and brick bracelet on a larger case.
  • Copied specs. The listing borrowed numbers from a Santos or a Datejust 41.

Numbers to get in writing before payment

  • Case diameter in mm, crown excluded.
  • Lug-to-lug in mm.
  • Case thickness in mm. Quartz builds run thin. Automatic builds run 2mm to 3mm thicker.
  • Weight in grams, watch only, bracelet sized.
  • Movement type and maker. Steel Panthère models use quartz. Replicas use Ronda, Miyota, or unbranded Chinese quartz. Automatic replicas use ETA 2824 clones or a Miyota 9015.

Materials

  • Steel: 316L is standard in the replica trade. Ask for the grade in writing.
  • Plating: gold replicas run 2.5 to 5 microns of gold over steel, or a PVD coat. Plating wears first at the caseback, crown, and clasp edges.
  • Glass: sapphire crystal, anti-reflective coating on the inside face.
  • Crown: blue spinel on steel models, blue sapphire on gold models. A plastic or glass cabochon is a tell.

Bracelet

The Panthère bracelet uses a brick link pattern and a hidden folding clasp. Replica links vary: screws, friction pins, or split pins. Ask which type. Screw links let you size the bracelet at home. Pin links need a press tool. Check the clasp stamp and the serial number against the caseback.

  • $150 to $300: quartz with sapphire, screw link bracelet.
  • $300 to $600: automatic movement, gold plating, "Swiss made" stamp.

A sub-$100 watch stamped "Swiss made" is mislabeled. Swiss law requires at least 60 percent of manufacturing costs inside Switzerland for that stamp.

Legal status in the US

Counterfeit watches are illegal to import into the United States. CBP seizes shipments at the border and destroys the goods. 18 U.S.C. Section 2320 covers trafficking in counterfeit goods and carries fines and prison terms. A personal-use order does not exempt you from seizure.

Checks on arrival

  • Diameter with calipers, crown excluded. Compare to the stated number.
  • Weight against the seller's figure, plus or minus 2 grams.
  • Bracelet link type, screw threads, and clasp alignment.
  • Cabochon color and material under a light.
  • Timekeeping over 24 hours. Quartz should hold within a few seconds per month.
