What a replica Breguet Heritage is
A replica Breguet Heritage is a copy of the tonneau-case dress watch line that Breguet sells under the Heritage name. Replicas come from Chinese workshops and sell for about $150 to $600. They copy the case shape, dial layout and caseback look. They do not copy the hand-finished movement or the solid gold case.
The genuine reference points
Breguet was founded in 1775 and is part of the Swatch Group. The Heritage case is barrel-shaped, with a curve that follows the wrist. Genuine Heritage watches use Breguet in-house self-winding calibers, a gold case, a hand-turned guilloché dial and heat-blued hands. Case size changes by reference. A 5410 and a 5460 do not share dimensions, so match the number before you compare photos.
What the copies get right
- Case outline and lug curve at arm's length
- Dial color and Roman numeral placement
- Caseback shape and engraving layout
- Strap width and buckle style
What the copies miss
- Guilloché: stamped or printed on most replicas, hand-turned on the genuine
- Hands: painted or alloy blue, not heat-blued steel
- Case metal: 316L steel with gold plating, and the plating wears at the lugs and crown first
- Crystal: mineral glass on low tiers, sapphire on mid and top tiers
- Movement: Asian clone of an ETA 2824, a Miyota, or quartz. Rotor noise and beat rate give it away
- Dial print: thicker ink and soft edges on the small numerals
Price tiers
Low tier: $150 to $250. Quartz or basic automatic, mineral glass, thin plating. Mid tier: $250 to $400. Sapphire, decorated rotor, sharper dial stamp. Top tier: $400 to $600. Closer case thickness, engraved caseback, movement with cosmetic finishing. No tier uses a gold case.
Checks before you pay
- Match the case size and thickness to the reference number.
- Ask for photos of the actual watch, not catalog images.
- Check the crown position and hand alignment at 12.
- Ask for the crystal type in writing.
- Ask for the return window and the payment method.
- Confirm the strap material and the buckle finish.
Red flags
Stock photos only. Claims of "1:1 Swiss made" on a watch that costs $200. No return address. Sellers who take one payment method and no other. Any listing that shows a gold case at a steel price.
Legal note for US buyers
Counterfeit watches are illegal to import into the United States. CBP can seize a shipment and the buyer loses the money. Breguet is a registered trademark, and a counterfeit mark on a replica is a separate offense from the copied design. Insurance and carrier claims do not cover seized goods.
Service and life span
Replica movements take standard clone parts. A local watchmaker can swap a movement or a crystal. Plated cases cannot be re-plated to the original finish without a full strip and refinish. Budget for a strap change within a year if you wear the watch often.
