Short answer
A fake Vacheron Constantin Overseas 4300V is a counterfeit watch built to look like the Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin. The 4300V reference number belongs to a real Vacheron Constantin line. The fakes copy the case shape, the dial layout and the bracelet. They do not copy the caliber 1120 QP/1, the Geneva Seal or the perpetual calendar mechanism. A listing that offers a "4300V" for a fraction of the gold-case retail price is selling a counterfeit or a mislabeled watch.
The genuine reference
- Model: Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin, reference family 4300V.
- Case: 41.5 mm, 18K pink gold or 18K white gold.
- Movement: caliber 1120 QP/1, self-winding, ultra-thin, about 40 hours of power reserve.
- Functions: perpetual calendar with date, day, month, leap-year cycle and moon phase.
- Finish: Poincon de Geneve (Geneva Seal) on the movement.
- Strap: interchangeable bracelet, plus rubber and leather straps, on a quick-release system.
- Retail: high five figures to low six figures USD, by case metal and year.
Reference suffixes change with case metal and dial. For example, 4300V/120R-B547 is a pink gold version. The suffix is not a model name.
What the fakes copy
Most fake 4300V come from the same workshops that build fake Rolex and fake Patek Philippe. The common build uses a 41.5 mm plated case, a printed or lacquered blue dial, applied markers and a decorated automatic movement. Some copies include a look-alike strap release. Listing photos are often of a genuine watch, not the item shipped.
Checks that work
- Calendar behavior. A true perpetual calendar holds the correct date into 2100. Fake calendar modules need a manual correction at the end of February.
- Movement. The display back on the genuine watch shows an ultra-thin automatic with a gold rotor and Geneva Seal engraving. Copies show a thicker movement with plated bridges and painted rotor edges.
- Geneva Seal. The 1120 QP/1 carries the Poincon de Geneve. Fakes engrave a copy of the mark. A copy is not an issued stamp.
- Strap release. The genuine Overseas end link releases with one built-in tab. Copies use spring bars or a loose copy of the mechanism.
- Weight. Weight is not a reliable test. Some fakes use a tungsten core to match the heft of gold.
- Price and channel. A new 4300V comes from an authorized dealer. No other channel sells new stock.
Legal status in the US
Trafficking in counterfeit goods is a federal crime under 18 U.S.C. 2320. A first offense carries a statutory maximum of 10 years in prison. Trademark owners can sue under the Lanham Act, 15 U.S.C. 1117, with statutory damages up to $2,000,000 per counterfeit mark per type of goods for willful use. U.S. Customs and Border Protection seizes counterfeit watches at ports of entry. A seized watch is destroyed, and the buyer loses the money paid.
What is not known
No public count exists of how many fake 4300V are in circulation. Vacheron Constantin does not publish production totals for the reference. Genuine resale prices change with the market and are not fixed.
