Jaeger-LeCoultre does not make a watch called the Reverso Tribute Duet. The catalogue lists the Reverso Tribute Duoface and the Reverso Classic Duetto. A "fake Reverso Tribute Duet" is a counterfeit of one of those two models, sold under a name the factory invented. That matters: a made-up name means no reference number, no case number to verify, and no factory specification to compare against.

What the genuine watches are

The Reverso Tribute Duoface is a steel or gold rectangular watch with two dials on one manual-wind movement. Published dimensions for the steel version are 47.0 mm by 28.3 mm, 10.3 mm thick. The movement is Calibre 854A/2, 180 parts, 42-hour power reserve, 21,600 vibrations per hour. The reverse dial carries a second time zone with a day/night indicator. Water resistance is 30 m.

The Reverso Classic Duetto is the women's two-dial Reverso. One face is plain, the other is set with diamonds. It runs Calibre 844, manual wind, 38-hour power reserve. Both watches use the Reverso carriage: the case slides on rails inside the upper and lower bars, then turns on a pivot. The carriage locks at both ends.

Where counterfeits fail

  • Carriage. Genuine Reverso cases slide up on machined rails and lock with two distinct stops. Fakes use a hinge, a press-fit plate, or a carriage that rattles and does not lock.
  • Thickness. Counterfeit Reverso cases run 1 mm to 2 mm thicker than the published figure. Measure with a caliper before anything else.
  • Second dial. On a fake Duoface, the reverse time-zone hand often moves with the main hour hand or does not move at all. The day/night disc may be painted, not rotating.
  • Dial finish. Genuine guilloché is cut on a rose engine. Fake patterns are stamped and look shallow under a loupe, with flattened ridges.
  • Caseback engraving. Genuine upper bars carry "REVERSO" in a defined typeface plus a case number in a fixed format. Fake engraving is shallow and laser-cut.
  • Movement. The genuine Calibre 854A/2 shows Geneva stripes, blued screws and polished bevels. Counterfeits use a stock Chinese manual or automatic movement under a decorated plate.
  • Hands and printing. Check the railway minute track and the logo weight. Fake printing sits thicker and the hands have burrs.

Price as a filter

Steel Tribute Duoface retail sits near 14,000 USD. Steel Classic Duetto retail sits near 11,000 USD. A "new" example at 800 to 1,500 USD is a counterfeit. A steel Tribute Duoface offered below 6,000 USD from a private seller needs paperwork and a movement photo before any payment.

Legal and shipping facts

U.S. Customs and Border Protection seizes counterfeit goods at import. Importing a counterfeit watch for personal use is prohibited, and reselling one as genuine is fraud. Sellers who list a "Tribute Duet" also tend to ship without box, papers or a serial, which removes the only records a buyer could check.

Checks to run in order

  1. Ask for the reference number and compare it with the Jaeger-LeCoultre catalogue. If the seller says "Tribute Duet," stop.
  2. Measure case length, width and thickness.
  3. Photograph the carriage open, closed and mid-flip.
  4. Photograph the movement through the caseback if the model has one.
  5. Compare the case number on the bar with the number on the papers.
